Mateo Pastore is a senior client management lead in the ETS Research Institute. He has more than 18 years of progressively responsible experience spanning educational technology, largescale assessment development, Agile product ownership, and high school mathematics instruction. He brings deep expertise in navigating complex federal testing programs—most notably the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP)—where he manages cross functional workstreams, collaborates closely with Coalition contractors and client partners, and helps shape the digital assessment delivery roadmap.
Mateo has a strong record of establishing new processes, transitioning assessments from paper to digital platforms, and leading the design, evaluation, and implementation of innovative assessment components. His background blends strategic thinking, analytical depth, and a nuanced understanding of the education landscape, making him a valuable resource for both operational execution and forward-looking planning across ETS.
Prior to his current role, Mateo served as a product/capability owner and as an assessment specialist across multiple levels, where he led teams responsible for item development, scoring, analysis, reporting, and test assembly in NAEP mathematics. His accomplishments include leading the digital transition of Advanced Placement (AP) Chinese and Japanese assessments, training and integrating new staff into core NAEP workflows, building multistage test assembly processes, and delivering high stakes digital scoring activities ahead of schedule. Earlier in his career, he was a tenured mathematics teacher who guided AP Calculus students to consistently strong outcomes.
Mateo’s blend of client leadership, technical assessment expertise, and collaborative facilitation positions him as a strong subject matter expert for Research Institute teams seeking guidance on assessment design, digital transitions, and largescale program operations.
