Maurice Cogan Hauck

Maurice Cogan Hauck is a senior director in the ETS Research Institute. He has more than 20 years of experience in educational assessment, with a particular focus on the design and development of new and innovative assessments. He has played a leading role in the development of English language proficiency assessments—including TOEFL Junior, TOEFL Primary, ELPAC, Alternate ELPAC, and ELPA21—and has published in leading journals on the application of evidence-centered design to a diverse range of constructs. Maurice earned his Ph.D. in language, literacy and society, and his M.A. in applied linguistics, from Columbia University, as well as his B.A. in English literature from the University of California at Berkeley.

In addition to his work at ETS, Maurice has more than 10 years of experience serving as a teacher of English as a second language.
