Yang Jiang

Yang Jiang is a research scientist in the ETS Research Institute. There, she conducts interdisciplinary research at the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI), data science, education, psychology, and technology. Prior to joining ETS, she obtained her Ph.D. in cognitive science in education from Teachers College, Columbia University. She also holds an Ed.M. in technology, innovation, and education from Harvard University and an M.S. in applied statistics from Teachers College, Columbia University.

Yang’s research focuses on advancing the responsible use of data science and AI methods to improve learning, teaching, and assessment. She develops and applies educational data mining, learning analytics, and AI methods to large-scale educational data to explore how learners interact with technology-based learning and assessment systems, and how these interactions relate to cognition and learning. She also leads research on the fair and ethical use of AI in education, developing equitable, valid, and innovative approaches to measure and foster complex 21st century skills such as collaboration, self-regulated learning, and socio-emotional learning. In addition to her research experience, she has worked as a K–12 math teacher in a charter school and as an instructional designer in an educational publisher.

Yang’s work has been featured in the Nation’s Report Card (i.e., the National Assessment of Educational Progress, NAEP) and has been published in high-impact journals, including Computers and Education, Computers in Human Behavior, Contemporary Educational Psychology, Journal of Computer Assisted Learning, Behavior Research Methods, Journal of Research in Science Teaching, Journal for Research in Mathematics Education, and Journal of Educational Measurement. She has received best paper awards and nominations at research conferences and has been recognized with the Harvard Graduate School of Education Alumni Council Award for Impact in Education.
