U.S. Department of Education and Institute for Education Sciences Grants

Our researchers are Principle Investigators (PIs) on U.S. Department of Education and Institute for Education Sciences (IES) grants. They are investigating topics such as:

  • how to leverage advances in automated writing evaluation and writing process analysis in middle school classrooms through an open-source, digital formative writing assessment dashboard that teachers use to identify next steps in instruction
  • the use of process data on literacy and numeracy items to characterize response profiles and test-taking behaviors of low-skilled adults and improve instructional practices
  • a theory and data-driven approach for identifying evidence of collaborative problem-solving skills
  • classroom observation for peer feedback and reflection
  • assessing the development of students' argumentation skills
  • improving students' mathematics experiences, including how success impacts students' memories, motivation and engagement
