Abstract
Provides an overview of the scientific literature related to the role of noncognitive factors and other background variables on graduate school admissions and success. Noncognitive factors include, among others, creativity, emotional intelligence, self-efficacy, and motivation; background variables include mentoring and social support, prior accomplishments, financial support, ethnicity, race, and gender.
