Abstract

The TOEFL program has long recognized and supported the importance of research in maintaining and improving test quality. Since the mid-1970s, a portion of the annual TOEFL budget has been committed to fund and disseminate research on issues related to language assessment. ETS supports a research program to advance knowledge in the field of language assessment and second-language acquisition. The goals are to: improve language assessments and related products, assure that they meet professional standards, and develop the foundation for new products and services.
