Abstract

Writing at the request of the College Board Committee on Examinations, Dean Henry Dyer has expressed the desirability of redesigning the Scholastic Aptitude Test to permit the reporting of three or four separate scores in addition to the two now reported. Since the five or six scores which would then be reported could be weighted for maximum prediction in a variety of specific situations, the test so redesigned would be found useful by a greater number of colleges than now use it. The additional scores would not necessarily consist of new test materials; some might be derived from the separate scoring of various item types within the present test; for example, verbal relations and reading comprehension. Toward providing additional scores, the present test will be investigated by the method of item-analysis against external criteria in order to find subdivisions in present materials, while the study described here will investigate new aptitude measures.
