The general model of latent structure analysis is presented, as well as several more specific models. The generalization of these models to continuous manifest data is indicated. It is noted that in one case, the generalization resulted in the fundamental equation of linear multiple factor analysis. The major implication of latent structure analysis seems to be that a variety of models for analyzing continuous multivariate data may be envisaged. The application of linear factor analysis should be regarded as a choice, albeit a convenient one.
