Abstract
A maximum likelihood ratio procedure is presented for testing Luce's choice theory, on the basis of experimental results. Luce hypothesized that in choosing between two mutually exclusive alternatives, C1 and C2, the ratio of the probability of choosing C1 to that of choosing C2 remains unchanged for variations of a third choice alternative, C3, when C1, C2, and C3 are mutually exclusive.
