Abstract
The construction of the Edwards Personal Preference Schedule was examined, and a decade of research bearing on its reliability and validity was reviewed. It was concluded that this personality inventory has reduced the influence of social desirability response style, but there is little justification for assuming that its scales measure the constructs that they are intended to reflect, or that, with the important exception of the link between the Achievement scale and academic achievement, the scales are useful in predicting socially important variables.
