Abstract

Two item arrangements of an interest inventory were alternatively distributed to 181 grade 11 students. The proximal arrangement was suspected of producing spurious interitem correlations. It was compared with a distal arrangement theoretically optimal for the purpose of minimizing response halo. The results indicated that the proximal item arrangement did not heighten response halo.
