Abstract

The New York Times' 100 Neediest Cases were analyzed for a variety of factors that might be expected to affect the number of contributions to the needy. Indices of psychological disturbance and of moral transgression in such cases were negatively associated with the number of contributors. The presence of physical illness, however, was positively associated with number of contributions.
