Abstract

The present study attempted to extend and broaden the work of Ponzo, who studied mothers' expectations of the abilities of Italian seven year olds. Like Ponzo, the study found that U.S. mothers tend to overestimate their children's thinking abilities. Unlike Italian mothers, however, U.S. mothers of boys do not differ from mothers of girls in their estimates. (Archives).
