Abstract
In a sample of 50 colleges, relations between 11 institutional functioning dimensions and seven student protest scales were studied by means of zero order and multiple correlations. Student militancy arising from off-campus circumstances (e.g., the Vietnam war) proved to be more predictable than protest over campus conditions (e.g., dormitory rules). A general explanatory hypothesis for the findings is offered.
