Abstract
In previous empirical studies regression procedures have been developed for estimating the standard deviation of a new test prior to its operational use. The present study, also empirical in nature, proposes a predictor not previously tried, namely, the mean deviation of the item difficulties about middle difficulty. Cross-validation shows this variable to be a valuable member of the set of predictors. (9pp.)
