Forty preschool, forty first grade and forty second grade children generated strategies to interpersonal problems that might arise within the context of a friendship relationship. Two types of problems were presented by having dolls act out an interaction: (1) a conflict between two friends over a desired object or activity; and (2) one friend evidences a lack of knowledge and must be taught a game or social norm. The number, type and predicted success of interpersonal strategies generated by the children were found to vary with age and the context of the interpersonal problem. (30pp.)
