Abstract
The College Board recently published Taking the SAT, a booklet designed to improve candidates' familiarity with the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and the Test of Standard Written English (TSWE). This note examines the extent to which receiving the new booklet altered (a) candidates' strategies with regard to responding in the face of uncertainty and (b) the rate at which examinees proceeded through the test. It is suggested that specific instructions found in the booklet are related to changes in examinees' test taking behaviors in both of these areas. (8pp.)
