Abstract

The study's aim was to develop a procedure that could be used to appraise the cognitive features of subject (achievement) tests. Cognitive taxonomies and an accompanying coding scheme were developed and applied to the GRE Subject Tests in Psychology and Literature in English. The cognitive profiles of these two tests were found to be strikingly different, indicating that the taxonomies were operating as intended. Ways of improving and extending the procedure are discussed. (51pp.)
