Abstract

It is frequently necessary to read alphabetic or numeric data into an image-processing system by means of scanning. Although recognition of machine-printed letters and digits is now a reasonably robust technology, it is time consuming and can be prone to error. This paper is a description of a fast, highly reliable means to enter preprinted alphanumeric data by means of a parity-checked binary coding scheme.
