Abstract

(8pp.) The results of several summaries or meta-analyses of the effects of coaching for the SAT are reviewed. Com- mon misconceptions--for example, that simple test score gains from one occasion to another are an adequate reflection of the effects of coaching--are discussed. In addition, the results of several recent coaching studies are viewed in light of the earlier summaries. Finally, the available evidence is reviewed for two of the best known commercial coaching enterprises.
