In the 2015 Tomás Rivera lecture, Manuel T. Pacheco, the president emeritus of the University of Missouri system and the University of Arizona, noted the growth of the Hispanic population in the United States and its importance to the long-term economic competitiveness of the United States. He argued that Hispanic Americans should, thus, be proportionately represented among college students, faculty, staff and administration.
