Earnings and Unemployment Rates by Educational Attainment
Source: Current Population Survey, U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Department of Labor.
Not only is educational attainment associated with earnings, but there is also a clear relationship between levels of education and unemployment rates
Looking at individuals with less than a high school diploma, we can see that:
- They were almost twice as likely to be unemployed as the average for all workers.
- They were over two-and-a-half times as likely to be unemployed as those with bachelor's degrees.
- And they were over four-and-a-half times as likely to be unemployed compared with individuals who had professional or doctoral degrees.
