Not only is educational attainment associated with earnings, but there is also a clear relationship between levels of education and unemployment rates

Looking at individuals with less than a high school diploma, we can see that:

  • They were almost twice as likely to be unemployed as the average for all workers.
  • They were over two-and-a-half times as likely to be unemployed as those with bachelor's degrees.
  • And they were over four-and-a-half times as likely to be unemployed compared with individuals who had professional or doctoral degrees.
