Coronavirus GRE® Testing Updates for Asia Pacific

Updated April 2, 2020

Ongoing updates regarding important information about future testing and test-taker support will be added to this page. Please bookmark it.

At Home Testing Available Worldwide for the GRE® General Test

ETS has expanded the availability of at home testing for the GRE® General Test to everywhere the computer-delivered GRE General Test is normally available, with the exception of Mainland China and Iran. In Mainland China, ETS is working closely with NEEA to accommodate test takers impacted by test cancellations, including adding test dates once regular testing resumes. ETS is working to offer at home testing to Iran as soon as possible.

At home testing for the GRE General Test is for students who have been affected by the coronavirus (COVID-19). Monitoring of the test will be conducted using live remote proctors and artificial intelligence technology by ProctorU®, the leading proctoring solution for online testing.

The test is identical in content, format, on-screen experience and scoring to the GRE General Test taken at a test center. It is monitored online by a trained human proctor from start to finish to maintain test security.

Test Postponements and Rescheduling Fees Waived

Due to concern for the health and safety of students and staff, and in compliance with local and national government directives, GRE® test centers have been closed in some locations for limited periods of time.

View the list of locations where ETS has suspended GRE testing countrywide.

Other countries and regions have limited testing available. To search for currently available test seats, visit the GRE Test Centers and Dates page.

Rescheduling fees waived

To assist test takers during this time, ETS is waiving all rescheduling fees. If your GRE General Test appointment is postponed, you will be notified by email and your test will be rescheduled in your account. Check your account and your email regularly to confirm your testing status.

You can make the following changes in your account without incurring a fee and without contacting GRE Services:

  • Reschedule your GRE General Test appointment at a test center to another test center appointment.
  • Reschedule your GRE General Test appointment due to health concerns, even if your test center remains open.

To reschedule from a test center appointment to an at home appointment at no cost, contact GRE Services directly.

GRE® Subject Tests

In addition, the April 4 GRE® Subject Test administration has been canceled worldwide. If you were scheduled to test on that date, you will receive an email alert and will be issued a full refund of your test registration fees. You do not need to take any action at this time. Subject Test administration dates for the 2020–21 testing year will be published in April 2020 and registration will open on July 1, 2020.

If you want to register for a test, you can check test center and date availability in the GRE test registration system.

Updated Test Center Procedures

All of our test centers are following prevention steps to reduce the risk of spreading the virus. This includes regular schedules for frequent cleaning of high-touch surfaces and providing disposable wipes so that test takers can wipe down their testing areas.

Further, as a precautionary measure, you are allowed to wear a surgical mask at the test center. You should bring your own mask; masks will not be supplied at the test center. You will need to remove the mask temporarily to have your photo taken and to enable the test center to verify your ID during check-in and upon returning from breaks.

Disability Accommodation Requests

Please submit all GRE disability accommodation requests and supporting documents electronically via your ETS account. To ensure that your request is submitted with the required information, visit the Disability Accommodations page. Due to limited staffing, there could be delays in processing accommodation requests.
