Commitment to education and quality assessments
ETS is a nonprofit, New Jersey-based organization that is motivated by our mission to improve quality and equity in student assessment.
ETS was founded on the premise that access to education shouldn't be restricted by a student's individual circumstance. Our dedication to this mission extends beyond the development and administration of fair and valid assessments backed by rigorous research, to informing education policy, expanding opportunities for learners and communities, and improving teaching and learning.

A leader in K–12 assessment
ETS believes that student assessment should provide insight into where students are and where they need to be — and support educators while they create pathways to get there. With this goal in mind, we are developing new assessments at grades 3–8 and high school, which include summative and non-summative components. These components can be configured to provide more actionable information for those closest to teaching and learning.
We develop and deliver a broad range of other innovative and high-quality assessments for K–12, including the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), the HiSET® exam, the College Board's Advanced Placement® (AP®) Program, as well as a range of assessments customized for individual states and school districts.
Providing opportunities through fair and valid assessments
ETS also serves government agencies, education institutions and individuals by providing solutions for teacher certification, English language learning and elementary, secondary and postsecondary education, and by conducting education research, analysis and policy studies. Each year, ETS administers and scores thousands of tests in New Jersey.
The Praxis® Tests — ETS administers more than 50,000 teacher licensure tests to teacher candidates in New Jersey, annually. The Praxis tests offer more than 80 titles to ensure full coverage of New Jersey endorsement areas. Fifty-one states, territories and professional associations use the Praxis tests to inform high-stakes licensure decisions.
The GRE® Tests — Each year more than 10,000 higher education students demonstrate their readiness for graduate-level work by taking the GRE tests. Many New Jersey graduate and business schools rely on the GRE tests to make the best admissions decisions.
The HiSET® Exam — In 2017, over 1,500 individuals earned the New Jersey State-Issued High School Diploma by completing the HiSET exam. The HiSET exam provides an affordable and accessible way to achieve high school equivalency.

Promoting and disseminating research that advances equity in education
Our Policy Evaluation & Research Center (PERC) develops policy papers and builds on ETS's long-standing tradition of conducting and collaborating on research — focusing in particular on addressing gaps in access, achievement and attainment between disadvantaged and advantaged populations.
We work closely with New Jersey-based, national and international partners to identify public policy issues related to education to increase awareness. Learn more about PERC.
Supporting schools in New Jersey
A subsidiary of ETS, the Institute for Student Achievement (ISA) joins with schools and districts to transform high schools, so that students who are traditionally underserved and underperforming are able to graduate high school prepared for success in college and careers. ISA's partner school network has impacted over 70,000 students and over 4,000 teachers, counselors and school leaders. ISA is currently partnered with schools in Newark and Jersey City.
