How to Register for an SLS Test

Before you register

Some test takers may need to follow a different registration process than what’s outlined below. Be sure to read these policies if they apply to you.

How to register

The fastest, easiest way to register for an SLS test is through your SLS account. Ready to begin?

Have questions? Read our Online Registration FAQ (PDF).

You can also register by phone or by mail. Whichever method you choose, make sure that the name you use to register exactly matches the name on the primary ID you’ll use on test day. If it doesn’t, you won’t be able to test and you’ll forfeit your test fees. Read about this and other important ID policies in the Bulletin.

To register by phone, you must have an SLS account. There’s an additional $35 surcharge to use this service. At least 3 days before your test date, call ETS at 1-800-772-9476 Monday–Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. U.S. Eastern Time, and pay by credit/debit card.

  1. Complete the Test Authorization Voucher Request Form and mail it to ETS. If you’re outside the United States, reference the Citizenship & Country or Region Codes/Abbreviations code list to fill out your form. (See below for both.)
  2. Once your request is processed, a voucher number will be sent to you, along with instructions on how to register. Allow 3 weeks for delivery of the voucher.
  3. If you registered for a test center appointment, print your admission ticket from your SLS account and bring it with you to the test center. Your ticket will not be mailed to you.

Fees

The test fee varies by test.

Test Name Fee

School Leaders Licensure Assessment (6990)

$425

School Superintendent Assessment (6991)

$350

Connecticut Administrator Test (6412)

$120

For other test-related fees, see the Bulletin.

Rescheduling, canceling and refunds

To reschedule or cancel your test, log in to your SLS account or call ETS Customer Service. Do this at least 3 days before your test date, not including the day of your test, to avoid forfeiting your fee. If you cancel your test at least 3 days before your test date, you may be eligible for a 50% refund of your test fees. The remainder of your payment is retained to cover expenses for processing your registration and holding space at the test center. See the Bulletin for a complete list of policies and procedures.

Refund policy

You’re only entitled to a refund if you cancel your registration as outlined above. If you’re absent from or arrive too late to take your test, or if you don’t follow ID requirements or any other test center procedures, you aren’t eligible for a refund.

For a complete list of refund policies and procedures, including how and when refunds are processed, see the Bulletin.

Retaking a test

To retake a test, you must wait at least 28 days after your previous test date. This applies even if you canceled your scores from your previous test. For the full retake policy, see the Bulletin.
