Here are the types of tasks you'll see in the Speaking section of the TOEFL Essentials test.

For some tasks, you will read aloud one part of a dialogue.

It may be a conversation on campus or in another daily life setting.

This dialogue is about finding an apartment.

Hi, how have you been? It's been a while.

Hi, I've been doing okay. How are you?

I'm fine. Last time we met, you were looking for a new apartment. Did you find one?

My friend and I want to room together next semester. So we're looking for a place with two bedrooms.

Here you will repeat a series of sentences in a given scenario.

In this one, you are being trained to help people sign up for a theater club.

Check the boxes that indicate all the courses you're taking.

The last task in this section is a virtual interview, where you will have a conversation with a prerecorded interviewer. This interview is with a researcher from a music department. You will answer five questions about your experiences and opinions.

Thanks for joining the interview. I appreciate your help. I'm doing some research on people's experience with music. And today I'd like to ask you some questions. First, what is your favorite type of music?

I think my favorite type of music is rock pop and all of the music that came after the Beatles and are really influenced by a British pop, I think. Um, new things are also cool too, I think.
