Test Center Testing

Feel more confident on test day. Familiarize yourself with the policies and procedures you can expect when you take the ParaPro Assessment at a Prometric® test center.

Review the ParaPro Assessment Information Bulletin for the complete test day policies, including ID requirements, security policies and procedures, and dismissal from a test.

A note about test security

Test security is very important to ETS. There are policies and procedures that test centers must follow to ensure the test is administered fairly and securely. If you fail to follow the instructions of the test center staff, you won't be permitted to test, and your test fee won't be refunded. Any violation of security procedures during the test may result in dismissal from the test center and/or cancellation of your test scores. You can review all the security policies and procedures in the Bulletin.

What to expect on test day

Before you even arrive at the test center, there are a number of important things you should do:

  • Review test center procedures and regulations in the Bulletin.
  • Assemble your identification (ID) documents. See the Bulletin to be sure your documents will be accepted. You won’t be allowed to test without valid ID.
  • Review the list of important items to bring (below) to your test center and which items are prohibited.
  • Dress appropriately. Testing room conditions vary. Dress in layers to ensure you are ready for any room temperature.
  • Make sure to arrive at the test center 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment. If you arrive after your scheduled test time, you will not be permitted to test, and you will forfeit your test fee.

The list of what you should bring is short:

  • your required acceptable, valid ID
  • acceptable face mask or covering1

Don't bring personal items

Personal items other than ID documents aren't allowed in the testing room or permitted during breaks. For a full list of prohibited items and items that may be inspected, see the Bulletin.

1 If you come to the test center without a mask, you'll be turned away. The center or local policy determines if you're required to wear it the entire time at the test center. If they don't require it, you can choose to wear it. Medical masks and cloth face coverings are acceptable. Masks with valves or vents aren't permitted.

Arrival time

Arrive at the test center 30 minutes before your appointment time. During check in, you can expect the staff to conduct routine visual inspections, take your picture and check your ID, among other things. For a full list of the security procedures, review the Bulletin.

On occasion, weather conditions or other circumstances beyond the test administrator's or ETS's control may require a delayed start or the rescheduling of your test appointment.

Check in procedures

An administrator or supervisor will check you in and assign your seat. If you’re wearing a watch, test center staff will ask you to remove it and store it. For a full list of the security procedures, review the Bulletin.

Storing personal items

Other than ID, personal items aren't allowed in the testing room. Storage space for your personal items may not be available in all test centers, so plan accordingly. Test centers assume no responsibility for your personal belongings.

Selecting your score recipient

During the Background Information Questionnaire, you’re required to select one school district or agency to receive your official score report. If you don’t see your school district or agency listed, select the "Other" option. Then, contact ETS within 7 days after your test to report the issue.

During your test, follow all procedures and policies outlined in the Bulletin and given to you by the test center staff. Failure to do so can result in your dismissal from the test session and the cancellation of your scores by ETS. Licensing or certification agencies (if applicable) will be notified of any test takers involved in misconduct.

If you think conditions at the test center were such that you were unable to perform satisfactorily, you may request a retest. Retests cannot be offered if the official scores have been reported. To be accepted, ETS must receive your request in writing no later than 7 business days after your test. ETS will investigate before responding to your request.

Complaints can be sent to Prometric.
