Abstract

In the fall of 1947 ten one-hour tests designed to measure persistence were tried out on the freshman class at the University of Washington. Since the students could only devote one hour to this program, only one test could be given to each student. Intercorrelations with grades, high-school record, and aptitude tests showed that none of the tests would appreciably raise the prediction of grades that was already provided by the aptitude tests. Failure of these tests to show more positive results may possibly be attributed to poor motivation.
