This bulletin discusses various techniques for the statistical handling of data for comparative prediction and illustrates some ways in which these data can be presented to the user. The aptitude test and criterion data obtained in the West Point Guidance Battery study are used in the illustrations. Techniques included in the discussion are those used in the General Aptitude Test Battery, the Industrial Psychology, Inc., Job-Test Program, the Differential Aptitude Tests, the University of Washington Academic Prediction Chart, one of the pattern similarity measures, and other differential and comparative prediction approaches. An expectancy-table technique is recommended as most suitable for a useful comparative prediction battery, and a set of criteria are defined for judging the success of such a battery.
