Abstract

A theoretical rationale is presented for an antilog transformation in category scaling. The transformation is suggested for use in psychophysical analysis (a) to rectify the curvilinear relationships frequently found when category and ratio scaling methods are compared on the same perceptual continua, and (b) to simplify complex, artifactitious multidimensional structures.
