Abstract

Hypergeometric distributions, also called positive hypergeometric distributions, are discussed. The negative hypergeometric distribution, also called the hypogeometric distribution or beta- binomial distribution, is also described. The hypergeometric theorem is briefly proven. The following aspects are discussed: (1) practical applications--sampling, test theory, and Bayesian analysis; (2) moments; (3) representing the frequency function; and (4) extensions.
