Abstract

This study explored the use of the regression technique to compare the mean achievement of senior classes at a number of colleges. Using freshman mean Scholastic Aptitude Test scores as predictors and senior mean Graduate Record Examination Area Test scores (Social Science, Humanities, and Natural Science) as criteria, "higher" and "lower performing" colleges were defined as those above or below the regression line by at least one standard error of estimate. The characteristics of these colleges and suggestions for further refinement of this method were discussed.
