Abstract

A general theory of nonlinear factor analysis has been developed, numerical methods for a number of cases of this theory have been described, and computer programs for some of these cases have been made available. The object of this Memorandum is to describe a new computer program for nonlinear factor analysis, PROTEAN (PRoduct/Polynomial ROtation TEst ANalysis), which effectively supersedes the programs previously described, in that it incorporates virtually all the work of these programs and also includes a number of new possibilities. The opportunity will be taken to revise certain earlier processing recommendations which are now believed to be not the best possible.
