Abstract
The effect of reliability of the dependent variable on the power of an F test for a one-way analysis of variance is considered. Using the assumptions of classical test theory and a simple cost model, three methods of determining the optimum allocation of resources to test length and sample size are compared. The methods vary in accuracy, but all three have potential use for practical problems.
