Abstract
A regression model, assuming no interactions, was developed and tested for determining the contribution of 20 linguistic dimensions to spelling difficulty. The model was tested on 333 words drawn from Greene's New Iowa Spelling Scale. Separate regression runs were made for difficulty indices at grades 2, 4, 6, and 8. The coefficients of multiple correlation were .829, .907, .877, and .818, respectively.
