Abstract

The following is a set of squibs on various problems dealing with structures of temporal specification. Each squib is an independent argument and the ordering of the squibs is not meant to imply any structure whatsoever. The set of squibs share the following feature: they discuss a problem related to temporal specification. The existence of such variety of linguistic structures which appear to interact with temporal features should indicate the need for a unified account of temporal specification. The tense logic model (Hurtig, 1974) attempts to provide a formalism for the expression of temporal specification. It remains for future research to determine how a semantic representation of temporal specification would interact with the variety of syntactic structures which appear to "convey" temporal information.
