Abstract
A factor-analytic study of the GRE suggested the value of factor analytic techniques in highlighting or confirming the importance of dimensions in item classification schemes and also in uncovering additional dimensions that may have implications for balancing test forms. Specific confirmatory and exploratory application examples are cited from this study. These instances were uncovered by the study's two-part methodology--factor analysis of two operational forms and factor extension analysis of eight experimental tests that had been spiralled with the operational forms.
