The GRE General Test registration fee is $249 USD globally, with the exception of China, where the fee is $231.30 USD.

Registration includes sending scores to up to 4 programs. Additional fees may apply for certain services.

You can take the GRE General Test once every 21 days, up to five times within any continuous rolling 12-month period. This policy applies even if you canceled scores from a previous test administration.

If you miss or cancel a test appointment, it will not count toward the 5 test limit or incur the 21 day waiting period.

The retaking a test policy will be enforced even if a violation is not immediately identified (e.g., inconsistent registration information). If the violation is identified after registration but before the test administration, the testing appointment will be canceled and test fees will be forfeited. If the violation is identified after test scores have been reported, the invalid scores will be canceled, score recipients will be notified of the cancellation and test fees will be forfeited.

GRE Subject Tests are available for Mathematics, Physics, and Psychology. These tests are designed to demonstrate your knowledge in a specific field and may be recommended or required by certain graduate programs.

  • At a test center — GRE Subject Tests are offered at computer-delivered test centers worldwide during select testing windows.
  • At home — Available on select dates during those testing windows.

GRE Subject Tests are offered during designated testing windows in September, October, and April. Availability may vary by test format and location, so be sure to check available appointment dates when registering.

The GRE Subject Test registration fee is $199 USD worldwide. Fee reduction programs may be available for eligible test takers.

You may take a GRE Subject Test once every 14 days. If you'd like to improve your performance or submit a more recent score, you can register for a future administration.
